The Dangers of Performance Enhancing Drugs

Many athletes take medically prescribed performance enhancing drugs at dosages that are measured too high for what was prescribed for medicinal purposes or consumption. Much of what is recognized about the effects of performance enhancing drugs on athletes comes from observing users. It would be unethical for researchers to devise investigations that would precisely evaluate the effects of large doses of anabolic or androgenic steroids on athletes. This means that the risk of taking certain performance enhancing drugs, such as anabolic steroids, at very high dosages have not been well examined.
Side effects of using Anabolic Steroids for men include:

- Prominent breasts,
- Baldness,
- Shrunken testicles,
- Infertility, and
- Impotence.
- A deeper voice,
- An enlarged clitoris,
- Increased body hair,
- Baldness,
- Infrequent or,
- Absent periods
Performance Enhancing Drugs come in different shapes and sizes. As you can see from the figure on the right, some are in the form of pills, and others in the form of syringes. Although there are multiple different shapes and sizes of performance enhancing drugs they all have the same effect on those who consume or inject it.
